Your written care guide
The right care, at the right stage.
Your routine depends on your bandage and the products your artist recommends. Follow the steps that match your care plan; you do not need to use every product.
While the bandage is on
Clear adhesive bandaging
Leave it in place for the time your artist specifies for the bandage used. Do not lift an intact bandage to wash the tattoo or add ointment, gel, balm, or sunscreen underneath it.
If the bandage leaks, exposes the tattoo, or causes a rash or significant irritation, contact the studio promptly for removal and next-step guidance. Follow the product's removal instructions and clean the tattoo after removal.
After bandage removal
Start with clean hands and skin
Wash your hands before touching your tattoo. Gently wash the area with mild, fragrance-free soap and clean, lukewarm water. Rinse and pat dry with a clean disposable paper towel; do not scrub.
Once the area is dry, use the fresh-tattoo product your artist recommends. Keep your routine gentle and follow their cleaning schedule.
Traditional care, if recommended
Using A&D ointment
If your artist selects A&D for your early care, apply only a very thin layer to clean, dry skin after the bandage is removed. Use it for the time they specify, and ask when to switch to a fragrance-free moisturizer.
Avoid thick coatings or combining several aftercare products. Use clean hands or a clean applicator when taking ointment from the tub.
Care during healing
Using a Mad Rabbit kit
Check the products in your kit with your artist. If it includes Soothing Gel, that product is intended for fresh tattoos; use it on clean skin after bandage removal, following its label and your artist's instructions.
Products in a kit can serve different stages of care. Save Tattoo Balm and SPF 30 sunscreen until your tattoo is fully healed.
Once fully healed
Moisturize with Tattoo Balm
Mad Rabbit Tattoo Balm is for healed tattoos. Once your skin has healed, use it according to the label to moisturize the area and help your tattoo look vibrant.
Do not apply it to open, weeping, scabbed, or still-peeling skin. Ask your artist if you are unsure whether your tattoo is ready.
Once fully healed
Protect with SPF 30
Keep a fresh tattoo out of direct sunlight. Once it is fully healed, apply Mad Rabbit SPF 30 before sun exposure and reapply according to the product label.
Sunscreen belongs in your ongoing care routine. Tattoo Balm and A&D do not replace sunscreen, and clear bandaging is not sun protection.
Throughout healing
Wear clean, loose clothing and avoid picking, scratching, peeling, shaving, and heavy friction. Do not soak the tattoo in baths, pools, hot tubs, lakes, or rivers while it heals, even when wearing clear bandaging. Avoid tanning beds and direct sun.
Know when to get help
Some early tenderness, mild redness or swelling, and later itching or flaking can happen during healing. Spreading redness, worsening pain, pus, fever, or chills need prompt medical attention. Contact the studio for routine care questions; seek medical care for a suspected infection or serious reaction.

Clear expectations before the appointment
A short version of how we work. Our full studio policies cover deposits, rescheduling, cancellations, and no-shows in plain language.
Consultations
Sending a request does not create an appointment or guarantee the studio accepts the project. The studio reviews the idea, placement, size, style, budget, references, and availability before confirming next steps.
Deposits
A deposit of 30% up to $150, whichever is smaller, holds your appointment time and comes off your final session. Read the full deposit policy
Rescheduling & cancellations
We ask for 72 hours’ notice to move or cancel. Late changes and no-shows affect your deposit, and it only steps up if it keeps happening. Read the full policy
Age & ID
Adults 18+ need valid photo ID. Clients under 18 are tattooed only where Kentucky law allows, with a parent or legal guardian present and consenting. Read the full policy
Health and safety
Clients should not arrive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Artists may decline or stop service when continuing would be unsafe, unlawful, or outside the agreed design.
